Warrnambool
2008 - Div
1 Women.
Our
team this year - Cheryl, Jess, Kylie, Leena, Lyn E,
Lisa, Nadia &
Suzi. Division 1 Women was divided into
2 Pools with Crossovers at the
end of the round games.
We were in the toughest pool and lost 2 games
and won 2.
We played off in Cross-overs, but I'm not sure where
we
finished - 4th maybe? I do know in our first
game against Camberwell
Cobras that Kylie copped a block
off of her head! Now thats funny!

GAVA
Autumn Season - Div 1
Women.
It was a quite different
team starting this year - Cheryl,
Lisa,
Michelle, Shireen and an old friend from the year
2000 - Sue Clough who
was keen to get back into women's
olleyball - and we welcomed 3 new
players to Phantoms,
Carley Beck (new to the sport), Merryn Thomas
(Merryn
plays down at Bellarine in the Mixed Comp and Alana
(Daugher of
Sue and learning the sport). We had a tough
time in the Division this
year and spent most of our
team learning to function as a unit. Alas we
finished 4th,
but we have high hopes for progression in the
Spring
Season!

Bellarine
Autumn Season
- Div 1 Mixed.
We
were sad to find that Jon could not play this
year with crook knees, so
we managed along with 6
players - Aaron, Simon, Scott, Lisa, Cheryl
& Lyn
and we won the comp in the Final.

Bendigo Dragon
City 2008 - Div 1 Women.
To
Bendigo we go - we had another new and exciting
team this year with
Cheryl, Jess, Lisa, Lyn E (moral
support and partying with Deb), Nadia,
Rosemary,
Shireen - and making her debut for our tournament
teams was
Blair Campbell, and our recent Texan
import - Jolyne Fisher. We started
off well beating
Renegades in our first game, but had a hard time of it
in the other 4 games throughout the tournament. We
worked hard as a
team to combine effectively and in
all the games we had very tight sets
which could
have gone either way.
Horsham Tournament 2008 -
Div 1 Women.
Our
team for 2008 Blair, Cheryl, Emma, Jess,
Lisa,
Lyn E, Nadia,
Rosemary & we welcomed Claire
Jones for her first foray into the
Purple White &
Black! Lyn E was coming back from her dicky knee
and
it was decided to have Lyn set across backcourt
to give Claire &
Blair a rest. Lisa has dislocated and
fractured her right little finger
in the 2nd game at
Bendigo 2 weeks ago, but with a splint on, played
Libero for the tournament. This years Horsham
tournament was best of 3
sets to 31 which made
games very interesting. It actually benefited our
team, we worked hard to not let the scoreboard
intimidate us, and we
reaped the rewards, only
dropping one game to Renegades - we then met
them
in the final. The team had played really well considering
we had
only 7 fully fit players and the sets were
very close - we lost 3-0
(25-27 23-25 14-25). It
was terrific to the whole team played very well
with
a special note to our setters Claire & Blair who both
worked
really hard at setting for the girls.

GAVA
Spring Season - Div 1
Women.
This
is our 8th season as Phantoms in GAVA. Our
team - Cheryl, Lisa,
Michelle, Shireen, Sue, Alana,
Carley and we welcomed Stephanie Longley
(Daughter
of Shireen and new to the sport) and another
international
import - Jolyne Fisher who has come
out from Dallas Texas with her
Aussie husband and
hasn't played for around 8 years. In an interesting
season - to say the least - which had us forfeiting
2 games, and
depending on the result of the last
game of the season, we made it
through to the finals by
the skin of our teeth. Jo headed back to see
her family
in Texas, and we worked really hard to win the 2nd
v 3rd
game against Bellarine to put us in the Final
against Geelong. We
played well again as a team and
triumphed winning 3-1 for our 2nd GAVA
win and
our only Phantoms win for 2008 - well done girls!
A special
mention goes to Steph who worked hard
during the season to improve her
skills and is on a
fast learning curve - well done Steph! And to Jo
who
came along and saved us from disaster when
we needed players - thanks
Jo!

We're excited!

We're even more excited!

Bellarine
Spring Season -
Div 1 Mixed.
Aaron,
Lisa, Cheryl, Scott, Simon and we welcomed
Frank Legos who last
played volleyball around 20 years
ago. We had a solid season with a win
in the
finals against the Juniors.
